This was almost a 3 for me, but bottom line was that it went on far too long and towards the middle I was wishing that it would hurry up and end.
Look, I enjoyed Get Out but not really Us, and I wanted to! Same with Nope. I really wanted it to blow me away. As a fan of the horror/ sci_fi/ thriller genres, this is what I gravitate to and will always throw down money to go to a theater and watch. Are they all winners? No, but that's the fun part of it.
The barn spook scene was great, I thought okay he is going for straight forward alien dudes. But oh no its kids. That's cool too. The scene was well done.
The abduction scene was definitely cool, it only focused on one victim though and I would have personally liked more. But again that's just me. The scene was entertaining nonetheless.
Now, it's everything in-between that was restless to me. The character development wasn't there for me. Hayward Sr was gone in the first scene he is in and I didn't care for the acting or character of OJ. He mumbled through the entire movie. I didn't have any reason to pull for these characters. There's no way anyone should win an Oscar for any of these performances. I don't see what anyone else is seeing. I never felt emotional or anything towards the characters or story line. It's not an Oscar worthy film put that nonsense aside.
The concept was cool but not executed very well. The pacing was odd and I couldn't gauge where Peele was trying to build suspense. It was all over the place and nowhere at the same time. I get there might be some biblical themes. Spectacles. Tmz. But it just wasn't executed well enough.
I get this wild animal theory. Not looking at in the eyes. But, how could you prove this theory well enough to be confident enough to use as a technique to defeat this thing? It's otherworldly. It's not an animal. It's literally not of planet earth. Yeah okay, just don't look it in the eyes. Riiiiiiight.
Eh, it was worth a watch. But I could not sit through it again.
I'd definitely YouTube the abduction scene again but don't see myself doing that either.
Also, why did it bleed on the house but before the debri killed Hayward Sr, there was no blood bath?
And for it to be compared to Jaws. Uh not at all.
