"Captain Blood" is well written swashbuckling fun--seemingly more plot driven than character driven. The down side--and it's a big one--racist and sexist in a 1922 style of sensibilities, or actually lack of sensibilities. For example when Blood and his English mates effect an escape from Caribbean slavery, no one invites the Black slaves or even cares that they are left behind. The women are constantly fainting or swooning.--Well you get the idea. I still recommend that you read it with your ethics held high and as if you were reading Mark Twain or Thomas Jefferson.
