(No spoiler): Last of Us part 1 is one of my most favourite games. Apart from great graphics and gameplay, the story & script was amazing. The story resonated with people, and Joel and Ellie's evolving relationship through out the game made the game special. You fell in love with the characters as the game progressed.
Last of Us part 2 takes you back to the familiar dystopian world and the graphics are top notch. But you can't just carry a game on graphics only- remember The Order 1886? it was one of the prettiest looking game but the story was underwhelming and failed to leave a lasting impression.
Unfortunately Last of US part 2 succumbs to the same issue- the developers wanted to make a divisive and controversial game with completely bleak worldview and in the process completely ruined the story.
It's hard to like any character in the game and I even found myself liking less one of the main character from the first game as I played along. The story is just too convulated and you can sense the developers are trying too hard to make the game profound.
Last of Us part 1 left a mark on many gamers (myself included) and I wish I never played part 2 as it ruined the memory of the first one. Now I tell myself- there is no part 2, the story for me ended with Joel and Ellie driving to Jackson.
One thing to add- I believe a good game (and for that matter even TV & movies) need good story, script, direction and gameplay. A game doesn't need scenes of nudity and sex (straight or gay) to improve the gamers experience. For many infact this is off-putting. It's disappointing Last of Us 2 developers thought they had to include nudity & sex in this game (God knows why) which is in stark contrast with the first part and the Unchartered series.
