A fable of a book, full of genuine human emotion. Thought provoking.

Enjoyed and connected with the characters and the story line. Writer has talent for creating characters and dialogue that ring true for me. Added to my growing knowledge of the challenges of food rationing in the lives of British citizens in WW II era. Ending felt less rushed/abrupt as some of novels I've been reading lately and I appreciate that.

Couldn't make it past the first 10 % of the book. Nothing wrong with the writing style or the reader of the audiobook. I just have no interest in the lifestyle/attitudes of the characters. Nothing compelled me to continue on to see if a developing story might hold my interest.

Excellent novel set during WWII. Neither side wins during war, only Death. And Death, alas, is a reluctant winner, one without a lot of choice in the matter.
The audiobook was superbly read by Allan Corduner.
