I think anyone who rated a 1 star is mentally unstable. I say this often as a joke, but I loved this movie so deeply that, this once, I am not joking. It was such a tremendous work of art -- of directing, of acting, of editing, and especially of writing -- that I almost can't believe it exists.
I love writing stories myself, and there are very few fictional stories out there that have inspired me, and enthralled me, and amazed me as much as this one. I'm not saying it's perfect -- there's plenty of loose ends and confusing bits in it, but they seem like the type of thing to be elaborated on in further movies, and it does not ruin the experience not having them. Spiderman and the whole movie universe have taken me out of my darkest moments, and I am glad to say this is my favorite movie of all time, because not only has elevated my own struggles and inspired me, but you know it's a great movie when you have the whole entire thing memorized start to finish, and you still love rewatching it. There's nothing quite like the feeling in movies when you know exactly what's about to happen in the next scene, and you're still excited for it.
I only started watching superhero movies at all a few years ago, so I wasn't around for the other Spiderman franchises. But (spoilers!) this movie delivered, even for someone who didn't have the same nostalgia about it. I watched three Spiderman franchises come to life in one, and nothing has ever flourished so much on screen. The chemistry between the characters, the action scenes, the emotional scenes, the perfectly-paced humor, it's all phenomenal. I love Marvel to death, but when I saw this movie, I realize how much I had underestimated them. This blew me out of the park. And the acting -- the acting!! -- absolutely amazing. It was beautiful to watch. They all fell into their roles perfectly, and they all worked so fluidly with each other's characters I almost forgot it was real people playing those characters. I especially applaud Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. I think, in this movie, it was shown that it was those two who were suffering the most, and they portrayed it so well.
I realize this all makes me sound like an over obsessed geek (which is what I am), but I just really loved this movie. Don't listen to anyone who said it's bad. Tell them to seek help. This movie was a masterpiece in it's finest hour. And, besides, it really matters most what the audience thinks of the movie, and I have never seen any franchise ever so valiantly deliver on what the audience clearly wanted from them. A massive fanservice -- this film was a clearly written by and for the biggest fans of Spiderman. It checked all the boxes. It's inspired me so much. I've never had a cinema experience quite like it. Thank you, Marvel, Sony, Jon Watts, Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and everyone else involved, for giving me something that I can cherish even in my worst moments. The cinematic world would be nothing without you.
