I was disappointed. And gave it three stars at first. Not much of a story and I kept asking myself “Why The Power of Dogs?” It was slow. But…
I kept thinking about the movie and watched it again in a quiet uninterrupted place. It needs that and a big screen. It is thoughtful and beautiful. You have to be with it, in close attention to see it’s value.

I fell into this book and didn’t want to emerge. It’s powerfully written. I experienced the winters of rural Alaska, the importance and impact of community, the trials of an abusive relationship, the tragedy of ptsd and the deep love that holds everything together. This is a new favorite book.
