Having read the novel, in paperback, I found myself in Japan in the mid -1970s as a member of the Air Force, and watched the this version of the miniseries. Thinking a wate if time as , “…it will never follow the novel.” Half way through the first episode, my rear end never left my seat. Mesmerized was insufficient to describe this fabulous depiction of the Japanese people, their culture and devotion to their Samurai leaders and their Emperor, of whom the believed to be a deity. Read the book, find the original series BEFORE this latest version. You will not be disappointed!!
