Not too many people might take me seriously because of my username, nor am I a real critic, but I just wanted to share my opinion.
This movie has a darker twist to it than other adaptations. No King Louie, no "Bare Necessities (or should I say bear necessities? ba dum tss)", no honey-loving Baloo and just... Nothing. It lacks that same wondrous charm, trading it for a harsher world. Suddenly Baloo becomes a teacher to wolf pups, there's a random hyena sidekick that looks like he belongs in the Lion King, and some albino wolf friend of Mowgli, none of which have any real impact on the story, perhaps beside Baloo's role.
It adds unnecessary snippets to the story, like Bagheera being an animal for show and entertainment (though it was just mentioned during a conversation). And the aforementioned albino wolf was only added to make Mowgli salty later on, just for him to immediately forget about it. Oh, and they added a hunter/taxidermist. For what reason, you may ask? Literally nothing. He's completely unnecessary but was added anyway to add nonexistent weight to the story. Oftentimes, the dialogue and plot are laughable, not because they're funny, but because it's just ridiculous.
There isn't much to say about the animation and graphics. They're detailed, yet it doesn't look quite right. The animals, beside the elephants and monkeys, are made to look human with their eyes, lip movement, and expressions, but I'd say it was poorly executed. It just looks wrong. It probably has something to do with psychology and appealing to the viewer but it was just bad, almost like they were trying to add a more cartoonish style. But with the detail, it simply doesn't work.
The story somehow gets better as it goes on, but the ending... Well. That's for you to decide. But this movie wouldn't be something I would really recommend, and would definitely not watch again.
