I first saw it in 1954 when I was a young apprentice projectionist in Scotland.
Can’t remember being impressed by it then. But I was rather smitten by Ludmilla as only a 17 year old can be. And I do like Jack Palance. He did chew the scenery a bit in this one.

The director Douglas Sirk always had a bit of a hidden and sometimes not so hidden agenda in most of his movies. He was probably the most intellectual director who ever worked in Hollywood.
