I am super surprised to see this many raving reviews.
So, I am the hugest fan of the first Enchanted film, it has always been a classic that rang in my heart. Every song was a bop for me, the story was a well-written compilation of different Disney princess tropes at the time and Amy Adams really shined in it. It didn't have to rely on much to carry itself.
I remember hearing about Disenchanted back in 2018 or 2019, and I was super excited about the sequel and wondering how they would decide to tackle it. When the trailers came out, I was super excited about it. And when I watched it Thanksgiving weekend, I was more than disappointed.
There was so much yet so little that happened. Its failure can't be attributed to one thing, but there was so much that went wrong. It tried too hard to be meta, storyline choices were questionable, and even the songs didn't strike a chord with me. Some ever-afters shouldn't be touched after all; it really was so disheartening how much of a letdown it was.
The huge shine-out this time around was Amy Adams. She is such a versatile actress and played her role really well. All the actors did a good job, and none of them were "bad" per se, they did what they could with what they were given. But Amy Adams was still a huge star. Her being in this movie is the only reason I am giving this movie two stars.
