A pleasing film - beautifully shot - I’ve never seen Margate look so appealing nor quiet ! I felt it hit the 1980/1981 vibe perfectly. Possibly the relationship between the two main characters might be a little off kilter - but watch this for the scene where Coleman and Jones are sat on the fire escape. This scene stayed with me for several days, two superb actors at the height of their craft - neither underplayed or over zealous. Perfect. Will certainly sneak off to Everyman to see again ……

Whoa. Don’t get me wrong , I love films and will genuinely try and find merit in everything we see. This absurd film just misses the mark for me on every level. In fairness we left after an hour. I can not grasp the hype behind it. Yes , yes , fast paced extravaganza - decadence and all that jazz - but it fails. I can not quite put my finger on it. It was like it was trying to be something it was not , an American version of the French Dispatch ( which was outstanding and deliciously bonkers ) maybe? Who knows…… It was like it was trying too hard, nothing had any credibility or substance. The Mexican dude ‘ Manni’, heading in the right direction, but a poor foundation to work from.
