I personally love this movie. It is a classic. I'm so thankful that I owned that on VHS (Yes, it's a videotape, people!), and DVD. Absolutely would recommend if you have a love for cats (especially tabby cats, or in this case any kind of cat if neccessary). All three segments were great.
Let's start the opening scene... well, opening credits.
The film originally starts up with a prologue of the cat living with another family but the daughter ended up dying and the mother of said family grabs the gun and shoots at the cat (Not directly at it, but scaring the poor thing away). But it is abruptly cut against director Lewis Teage's wishes because the studio thought it was too cheesy, so they decided to open the film with a close-up of one of General's eyes peeling opening, set to the eerie score motif with some heartbeats (to be honest, the heartbeat in this scene is kinda soothing actually, and by the sounds of the music in the background, you really gotta pay attention to hear General's purring).
After 30 seconds of General's eye opening, we see him just strolling around, doing his usual cat thing... but all of a sudden, Cujo appears and he chases the cat all around the streets of Wilmington, North Carolina. They both were contacted by Christine (which appears as a Plymouth Fury. Pretty cool car, if you'd ask me). Then the cat hops in the delivery truck and is whisked away to the city of New York.
After he hops out of the truck, he hears a voice going "Help Me! It's After Me!" referring to the troll who was trying to steal the poor little girl's breath.
The first segment made me think twice about the effects of smoking and for convincing some people to quit smoking cold turkey, or through hypnotism. The funniest part of that segment was the one where Dick Morrison is trying to sneak a smoke for himself and wound up startling himself at the reflection in the mirror. Made me jump along with the character.
The second segment was so intense that it makes me feel so bad for the main character in the segment (Played by Robert Hays, star of Airplane). The funniest part of this segment, is when Ducky punching Johnny going "BOINGO!" (Ducky is played by Mike Starr... not the Alice in Chains bassist, RIP, but the Actor who also played Mental from Dumb & Dumber. By the way, Awesome punch!)
The third and final segment deals with the cat going back to Wilmington to search for the girl named Amanda (played by the wonderful Drew Barrymore) and the cat must protect Amanda from the troll who lurks inside Amanda's Room to steal her breath. Best part about this segment is when General beat the shit out of the Troll by swiping the thing to the turntable and speeding up the record. (The song "Every Breath You Take" by the Police is playing in the background was not the actual recording, but it is a cover version of the song by who knows what...) Although my least favourite character in this segment is Amanda's mother due to some stupid suspicion about cats stealing breaths from humans. Sorry to say it, but that character should've thought twice before making some rumours about General.
Personal favourite scenes: The first 30 seconds of the opening credits after the logo finishes, also the last part of segment three where General kicks that little troll's butt.
Best part about this film: The music score from the legendary composer Alan Silvestri who also composed for the Avengers franchise and Back to the Future trilogy. Great job.
Greatest horror anthology film ever. I would totally watch that movie again and again in a heartbeat.
