This! What a gem of a series. It is sad to imagine that people lived in such deplorable living conditions and were denied basic healthcare. Yet, we don't have to imagine. We have those conditions here,in the United States, today. I worked as a buyer for a home hospice agency. When nurses cry, it hurts. They have seen things that shouldn't exist anywhere, let alone in this great country.A lack of water, no heat, patients who were denied diapers, patients with one set of sheets- or no sheets- lying in their own excrement as they died. Nurses begging for bed bug suits, shampoo, lice spray, soap, pajamas. Feeling helpless. Not one episode of the Midwife has gone by reminding me of this and admiring not only their bravery then, but our nurses bravery in the here and now.
