Great movie, it definitely has the unique French method of making more from less. It's a basically a collage of many several short films and most of us can agree that european short films are remarkable. Indeed the relationship between the two is a true demonstration of the consequences of a troubled childhood both from the character Mathilda and León's viewpoint, I like that the writers kept León wholesome, realistically things might have been different. This movie paints as realistic as possible a picture of life in this troubled world, and indeed it is not advisable for minors. All that said it's definitely a masterpiece! Natalie Portman captivates us with her portrayal of jovial naivety and sincerity, Jean Reno with his depiction of a loner, a bohemian, a city-dweller with one of the most perilious and fateful occupations in society while Gary Oldman shows us the highly corrupting effect of unhinged exposure to power as well as exposure to narcotics, all that combined with well chosen soundtracks making this movie one of the most underrated pieces of theatrical treasures of our times.
