It's not a terrible movie. It's fun and light hearted that I would recommend for that reason only. You don't need to think to watch it. The 3 star is mainly because there is nothing over spectacular about the plot.
Very simple, easy to digest, it's alright. The actors were good. I think JLO did a fantastic job as Kat, she brought her to life, I felt like I was watching a real person, and not a character. Her reactions were well done and measured, they weren't over the top or dull, I though they were just right. Owen Wilson did a great job as Charlie, he was really in the role of single dad and math teacher. He really sold me the role of boring and average man, a little too well I might add. But the chemistry between himself and JLO were good. There were some scenes I thought were a bit exaggerated, but I feel like that has more to do with direction and there were times that I though the story dragged a bit, but that's also okay. I mean I did watch it in one sitting. It's an okay watch. The soundtrack was also very good.
My main meh with this movie is that it mainly felt like a promotional scheme for JLO's new album. Which I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST, just putting that out there. It's just that there were times I was pulled from the emergence of the movie and blatantly felt like, this is definitely to promote her new song. I mean I respect the ballsy move, but it did make the experience a bit odd for me. The songs were good though, props to JLO for that and they did fit in with the scenes in the movie. But yeah, a big promotion.
The characters at times did feel a bit one dimensional to me, but I feel like that has more to do with the characters themselves and less with the actors. If anything, the actors tried their hardest to bring them to life and turn them into breathing people with their expressions and body languages.
Was the nun scene really necessary though? That was a big question mark for. The outfit for the dancers was offensive to me and I felt that the whole number could have been done differently, and in a way that wasn't such a slap in the face or a mockery. If you are Christian, you will find that tidbit offensive, I just believe that there could have been a more tasteful way of performing that song. The song could be used, but the presentation was a bit thoughtless.
3/5 It's aight.
