Went into it with an open mind despite being a big fan of the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine etc. Good special effects but that is all there is in my opinion. The characters including the young Kirk lack depth and interest and the plot is confusing and weak. Difficult to engage with the good guys and even less with the baddies. What was the motivation of the lizard faced bad guys? The original series assumed a level of education with Picards interest in drama and archaology and in Voyager the hologram doctor developed an interest in music. All the characters in this film were one dimensional. What audience were the makers aiming for?
