Despite a long list of qualities and strengths including some great acting, the close filming of those tense chess games and the way they managed to evoke a certain time and place in recent American history, this drama series was disappointing because of its obsession with portraying the girl's inability to enjoy normal human relationships, especially sexual ones. The way a beautiful young woman and indeed a series of suitors were unable to enjoy a sexual relationship was obviously a major theme of the story but it made it a bleak story indeed and unpleasant for me to watch.
