I had similar experiences. It is very sad and frustrating how the system doesn't work it out. In reality, emotional/mental abuse was not recognized in the family court system. It makes it harder to fight. On top of that, if you have an illegal alien partner still getting protected from the system, they can manipulate the system. It feels the battle never ends it.
