A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!
One star for a good cast overall and for the new WoT readers this will inevitably attract. I don't mind changes made to race, ages, etc. (although it's kind of disappointing that I won't be seeing the changes to the Two Rivers during the influx of refugees from different regions), but they messed with the basic magic system (no duality of saidin and saidar, and no background on how saidin was tainted) and changed some of the main characters' personalities, backgrounds, and storylines for no acceptable reason. The budget was not efficiently used. The CGI is absolutely embarrassing at times. THE WRITING IS AWFUL, which is almost unforgivable given the source material. For example, there were three fake-out deaths in ONE episode.
I agree that current political agendas influenced these changes and not for the better. Wheel of Time was a bestselling series in spite of how women were depicted because it had more than its share of progressive moments. If you want to push your views, choose an appropriate piece of IP or better yet, create your own. There was no need for some changes, especially due to logistical concerns during the pandemic and the limited number of episodes allotted. Those who loved the books will almost certainly get their hearts crushed. I advise waiting for more respectful and creative producers to take the helm of its next iteration.
I wasn't planning on posting a review but seeing all the OBVIOUSLY FAKE five-star reviews with almost identical content from different users is too much.
