I’m not into rom-coms whatsoever but accidentally stumbled upon this movie and I’d have to give it 5 stars just because, as an Asian male, it breaks the stereotypes about Asians Americans (both male and female) altogether, especially stereotypes about Asian males and stereotypes about the expectations of Asian parents. It is a mainstream movie that represents Asian Americans realistically and in a positive light, unlike those Kung Fu movies or mobster movies where Asians and Asian males are always portrayed as the bad guy, or perpetuate stereotypes of certain interracial relationships. For that alone, it gets 5 stars. And to be quite frank, I think those who gave the movie low ratings are low key r__ist. You can fill in the blank. This movie is actually more socially conscious than it is a rom-com.
