Without going into whether this remake is as good as the original miniseries ( which is not), I think what let’s this movie down is missing out on fully benefiting from Stephen King’s source material. What made the book ‘not just another vampire story’ was the layering of the underlying horror narrative and the coming together of multifaceted main characters. The way the unthinkable is pieced together through interconnecting experiences is reminiscent of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It all felt a bit rushed and superficial in Salem’s Lot 2024. I don’t think it’s a horrible movie, but I can see why it has attracted mixed reviews. I thought the three main kids’ performance was a standout.
