Having been there at the beginning, I can honestly attest to the once-very-funny show as a descent into cultural blandness. It just isn't very funny anymore. However, I'm glad that the studio audience enjoys it, albeit, I can easily envision flashcards used to indicate when to applaud and laugh. At my age, I have found absolute humor universal, adept at crossing the barriers of race, sex, politics, and occasionally age. Maybe this descent is due to cable shows, of which, I do not pay. So, most of the guest hosts are unfamiliar to me. I know how difficult writing is, but I also know if there is nothing to inspire, writing is laborious, and good writing is impossible. So sorry that Trump was fired and his brilliant mimic Alec Baldwin was inept in handling firearms. So much could have lent itself to contrived skits concerning Trump's desire to be reinstated. There is nobody that can act the part better than Baldwin. I delight when NBC airs Vintage SNL (> 10 years ago). I love to laugh.
