Very disappointed. Although the subject matter of the subjugation of women in Arab culture is of concern, the writing was so repetitive and the characters were one dimensional. All the women were dissatisfied, repressed and the feelings of hopelessness was pervasive and repeated over and over. The men were not developed and were only portrayed to be controlling and wife beaters. I am not familiar with PalestinianAmerican culture, but I feel this novel presents an unflattering stereotype of submissive women, abusive men, and oppressive practices.
