No, no, no, no. How could I NOT know this was a musical? That’s crazy. Also, I’m obsessed with musicals but this fell so flat for so many reasons. I feel terrible for the all star cast and wanted to like this film so bad due to the lineup of some of my faves. The songs were horrible, didn’t match the vibe of The Color Purple at ALL. Such a disappointment. My sister and I stayed long enough with fingers crossed to see what Taraji brought to the screen, which was better than the rest of the movie but overall, none of it gave me any of the feels from the original film. This “remake” seemed more like a parody or mockery of the original.
