I found the movie to be excellent, There are many dimensions to the story including the following: 1, The end of society as we know it. ‘ 2. The emergence of the survival instinct in those who seek fight against an invisible enemy 3, The character development of the players in the movie and how each person adapts to a crises and the threats to their life 4, The struggle to survive and the demands and costs it places on those who survive 5. THe power of love to give hope to others 5, The importance’s of having hope in the face an overwhelming crises These are just a few of the key theses. I have not seen the movies that others are comparing it to. I am looking at it as a stand alone effort of some one to communicate their view and ideas, and I liked it. As I keep running the story in my mind, I feel there is another interpretation of the whole movie. As the emergence of an unknown enemy spreads around the world, Malorie is painting a scene in which people live amongst others but have no relation or connection with them. We learn as they story progresses that Malorie has had a troubled family life and lives like so many in a world of isolation and loneliness without meaningful connection with anyone. Her painting is an outer expression of her inner condition and the intense feelings that power her conscious and subconscious existence. Her painting is an artistic effort to release and free herself from her daemons. In this case, the power of her inner consciousness is so powerful, it releases an invisible force capable of destroying mankind. Her inner rages is on the verge of wiping out civilization. Her effort to survive and express her feelings through her art, in fact, brings out the hidden enemy that destroys the society she openly hates. Everything and everyone dies killing themselves or working for the enemy to kill everyone and everything. As the enemy destroys everything around her, she struggles = to awaken as she faces her inner enemies as they come to her through the other circumstances and characters in the story. As the story continues, she looses one after another of those around her. Finally, Tom who responded to her first with with kindness and in time love challenges her to look at life with a new perspective and to find a place for hope in her heart. in the end, he sacrifices himself to save her and her children. His sacrifice gives her the courage to take the final journey that will help her break free of the past and find a new reality, Her struggle continues on the river journey, but she fights through all the obstacles within herself. In the end, she is led to a community where she sees an opportunity for her children and others to find a new way based on hope for the further. In a cleansed world, she finds an opportunity to relate, connect and build a whole new reality.
