I was looking forward to reading this book, but after only ten pages, it seems like a giant political ad.
There are about three randomly placed mentions of key issues pertaining to a certain political party. In addition to this, two unlikeable characters are politicians from a certain US state known for being of the opposing political persuasion.
That being said, I could care less about the political stance of the authors behind the fiction I read. It doesn’t mean an author’s beliefs can’t be included in a story.
But there’s nothing natural about it in this book. There’s a difference between including a gay character (a human element), or the characters using the phrase “gay rights” every other sentence in a book about an alien invasion.
Likewise, you can have a story about someone surviving a late term abortion (human element), or a love story where the two people falling in love keep bringing up gun rights at random moments.
There was nothing human about the way the author’s politics were included again and again before getting to page 11.
