The novel Drunk Tantra by Ranga Rao published in1994 is the story of campus life of teachers. The plot of the novel is equivocal and obscure and tends to focus on the antagonist, Hairy more than the protagonist, Mohana. The obscurity of the plot can be lessened once we start focusing on the antagonist, his dishonesty, greed, lechery and corrupt behaviour. Other important characters in the novel are Mr Daash, Sharma and Verma who represent the ethical upright teachers and Mrs Mochan and Mrs Karan(the fertility goddess) portray the role of unethical immoral characters. The novel ends on a positive note of justifying the ways of God to man by punishing the evil nature of man. It will not be wrong to categorise this novel under the category of a picaresque tale of the campus in the tradition of Lucky Jim (1954).
