In the beginning, Riverdale was good.
It was about who killed one of the main character`s brothers. This made it interesting, but as the show progressed it just went downhill and stuff really did not make that much sense. They also changed some of the characters around. As an example, one of the most famous characters from the franchise was Jughead Jones. They switched his whole sexuality because in the comics he is a proud person of asexuality but in the series, he is straight which was the first red flag of the show. As the show progressed some of the timeline really did not make any sense whatsoever. As an example, Cheryl Blossom is said to be a sophomore, but here is the kicker: her twin brother is a junior. You read that correctly, her twin brother was a junior and she was a sophomore. As twins they should be in the same grade, they never explained why they were in different grades. Another notable example is how Josie and the Pussycats were introduced in the first season as a band but when season 2 began they just kind of disappeared. The most the fandom got was the band broke up, that is it, but it did not explain much. The only thing we pretty much got was that one of the band members dated Archie after they had broken up. The band member was never mentioned again , and when one of the band members got a spin off series, they still did not explain why the band broke up which was a little disappointing. One of their storylines kind of made me uncomfortable which included 2 main characters who are dating. The problem is that the 2 main characters that are dating, their parents are also dating and they share a half sibling together. Another weird thing in this storyline is that they all live in the same house together. All over the place with this storyline by the fact that 2 main characters share a half sibling and they still continue on dating. These are just a few things that do not make sense in the show but there are more things that don't make sense in the show. In closing, this is why Riverdale went downhill as it progressed as a whole.
