Really weird watching this. I never knew the book or saw anything but snippets of original film (which didn’t make me want to see any more). However I saw Matilda the Musical when it originally opened in Stratford upon Avon and knew it would take the world by storm. I’ve seen it twice since and am a massive Tim Minchin fan - seen him live several times too. But - this was so disappointing in every way - none of the joy or mystery of the musical. I’m surprised Tim put his name to it as his work is usually faultless. In a word - beige.
