This movie covers a very sobering topic. The loss of one's hearing has to be difficult and stressful. The reality of what happens to Ruben, the main character, can be felt intensely by the viewer.
I think the edit could have been better. The change in Ruben's life is swift. So it's hard to see the thoughts that went into him seeking therapy. But much more would have made for a much longer movie, and it was long enough as it was. Many of the scenes go on for a long time, but the effect is good. We need to see what the change is for Ruben, and how it affects him.
This movie is sad. But the conclusion, while sad, is also hopeful for Ruben, as he realizes how he must live his life going forward.
Riz Ahmed was excellent in this movie.
