This is how franchises should be respected. You'll never catch lightning in a bottle a second time, so don't try. Instead give it a fresh look with solid nods to the originals in such a way that not only is respectful of the original, but of the old fans too, while being fresh enough to draw in new ones. Frankly I would rather have three epic episodes that brings me and my family together to watch, than a protracted season that may or may not be any good.
