Having read the novel, I wasn’t sure how it would translate to the screen. I think they’ve done a wonderful job. They took a very science heavy and complex story and made it fairly universally enjoyable and exciting. I think the essence of the story remains the same, but the pacing and broader backgrounds for cast members honestly made more sense. I appreciated the fact that many of the main characters did remain Chinese. Great pacing, interesting plot, well constructed visuals, very well done acting and directing. I enjoyed it far more than I was ready to. Get through episode one and it’s entirely binge worthy.

Well crafted. In the spirit of Tolkien. His works are older and from a time where maybe not everyone was well represented. This show goes beyond that and maintains the spirit of what makes his works so beloved. To see the world he created within in his pages, brought into a visual media that is clearly made by fans is absolutely wonderful. The critical attacks of the show are made by people who refuse to allow for adaptation. It is a new time. There are new fans. People from all ages, genders, and races. They too should feel representation. This is fantasy and as such it should be accessible to all kinds of fans. Personally, I love it. I am looking forward to seeing the series unfold and I am willing to be surprised by the storyline.
