After spending the day with my dying Aunt, all I wanted was to bury my head into something where I didn't have to think too hard and could dive into someone else's lives for awhile which this series succeeded in exquisitely.
When it finished, I felt like I had read a good book. All the characters are over the top awful in their own way, the family unraveling and the facade of a perfect life fading into oblivion was just what the Doctor ordered.
I will say though, watching Nicole Kidman's face lift change was like watching Madonna's bloated surgery face live and was rather disturbing above and beyond what her character did.
I was kept guessing on the murderer until the very end which I liked, even though it wasn't congruent with what the police said.
I especially enjoyed the Detective character and Liev was so flipping cool I think the world has a new Zaddy. Pedro Pascal, watch out.
The family was so screwed up I began to appreciate my own dysfunctional family a little more.
The scenery is beautiful, the plot twists keep you staying tuned in, and the various subplots keep it interesting.
If you need a mental escape into another reality, then I recommend this cast of messed up beautiful people because it's a low key romp that won't disappoint unless you're a bitter screenwriter whose scripts never get chosen.:)
This is what it is and well done. Nice to see Netflix giving a female director a chance to flex her skills too.
