This show blew my mind. The 2nd episode and certain parts of other episodes were way too over the top with the sexual debauchery and felt slimy, but I’m really glad I stuck with it. Also, making almost all of the Usher kids LGBTQ+ felt forced, and I think even a lot of gay folks are sick of being pandered to these days. It doesn’t always have to be about identity politics and things like that, just tell a good story. Which this show definitely did, in my opinion.
In addition to that, the last episode had a lot of social commentary, which I’m not really a fan of. But somehow, the underlying message felt so honest and so true that I was happy to overlook the more blatant commentary. I only wish they had left some of the commentary out because it will undoubtedly turn a large subset of people off from listening, who would otherwise benefit from seeing the underlying message in the story.
Even with these complaints, this show was absolutely incredible. The acting, the writing, the cinematography- everything was done so smartly and so creatively. An incredible show, very nearly a masterpiece in spite of its flaws.
