Jerone Anderson

A pretentious and hollow set of characters. There is little of redeeming value in this series. It isn't witty and doesn't contain beauty like period dramas do. Instead it is a cliche presentation of spoiled, dysfunctional rich people running about between a typical office complex and a New York City apartment.

Oppenheimer does not present this history very well. It spends far too much time with bizzare special effects apparently trying to show what might be in the heads of physicists when they look at equations but instead makes it seem like Oppenheimer was mentally unstable and constantly experiencing psychotic breaks. The movie is loud with a lit of repeated scenes of explosions, people stamping their feet etc which doesn't add anything to the story. It makes Los Alamos look like a completely abandoned site prior to construction of the lab and housing facilities for the Manhattan Project. The construction is not true to historical photographs. The radiation damage to communities where fissionable materials were processed and tested is completely overlooked. The history around selection of targets seemingly at random in Japan also seems questionable with Hiroshima and Nagasaki already planned years in advance as demonstration sites where maximum effect on relatively undisturbed cities can be observed. The documentary The Day After Trinity is a better movie with actual interviews and pictures taken during the Manhattan Project.
