I went to go see this film just last night, and I really enjoyed it! The animation was stellar and incredibly beautiful. The voice acting was pretty good too, except some dialogue was a bit cringy or sounded forced.
Since I went to a later showing (10 pm), and there were mostly adults and teenagers, and everyone was having the time of their lives. It was a big wave of nostalgia from the soundtrack to the mariokart references. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was very enjoyable throughout, and I didn’t find myself getting bored at all.
At an hour and thirty-two minutes, it was pretty fast-paced, but that’s what you get with a movie aimed for children. However, a film doesn’t have to be three hours long to be good. Bowser was awesome, and Jack Black’s performance of him didn’t fail. The folks who worked on this movie really knew what they were doing, and I’m glad about it.
My only concern was with how fast-paced it was. If we could’ve gotten a little more character growth or backstory, it’d be a bit better, I think, but overall it was fine.
I really recommend anyone to go see this whether your a child or adult. It’s enjoyable and packed with humour and nostalgia.
