To those who get easily confused, West World had more overlapping story lines than this film so it is hardly overly complex or hard to follow for seasoned Western film viewers. Only 25 minutes in, and I’m already tearing up from the bravery demonstrated by the settlers. From the outset, an established tone of courage, grit and fortitude exuding from the characters is palpable.
This film Showcases the pinnacles and losses of working together while in constant fear of your life. Familial struggles begin to unfold during their perilous journey in an endless landscape. The dangers and unpredictability of the frontier are relentless and emotionally demonstrates the brutal fight between the settlers who saw an open land and a hard fought future and the natives who showed no mercy at times no matter age or gender to defend it.
The visual experience is an in depth perspective into the perseverance and deeply held interests of all involved. This is, insofar, already an award winner, highlighting a monumental and destiny forging era we have severely misunderstood and lack a certain respect for in this technologically driven generation. You leave with an appreciation for the hardships and purpose of such a distant time.
