I feel like it could’ve been a stand alone tbh. I did enjoy New Gaia as it was very interesting and it was fun to explore this new culture and land so similar to my own but it didn’t fit with the series. We knew nothing about this sudden new villain and I get the sense this villain was introduced to unite the people of Orisha despite their differences but Orisha was barely mentioned. We got like a chapter or 2 and the rest of the book was about New Gaia and all these new characters.It felt rushed and left many questions unanswered. Where is roen? In the first book Zelie meets Oya and it was completely forgotten and never mentioned again. And we never truly got an united Orisha or get to see what Orisha becomes after the villain is defeated. It just didn’t feel like I was reading the same series. Very disappointing.
