You need to read the book in order for you not to hate this movie. I read the book beforehand and wept multiple times watching the film. The story isn't supposed to make sense, obviously, if we don't know how everyone turned blind all of a sudden, we're probably not gonna find out in the end, nor are any of the characters gonna care; because they just got their sight back after months of pure hell. And I can't believe anyone would patronize the doctor's wife for not spilling the beans about being able to see, first of all, when things were still normal, she literally willingly dropped her whole life and lied to the authorities saying she was blind just so that she could protect her husband, she is seen as a beacon of hope all throughout the movie. Attempting to keep things clean, helping out injured, hiding the scissors, and going into A RAPIST INFESTED HOSPITAL WARD all by herself armed with them to murder the gang leader and free the women from their agony. She is an obvious beacon of hope in this film, like I don't get how someone watching this film could hate her. And the reason we know nothing about the characters is one of the literary devices used in the book. We don't know actual names, or backstories, it's supposed to represent how society changed after the epidemic. People lost their sense of humanity, no one can see anything, so whats the point in even having a purpose in life, better yet have a name, or a personality? Read the book before you watch the movie trust me!
