Cry of Fear is an amazing horror game where you slowly experience the downfall of a wheelchair bound, suicidal, and depressed young man named Simon. The game has an absolutely amazing soundtrack, combined with the environments, they can either petrify you to the point you want to stay in a corner and cry, or make you feel triumph and give you the feeling like “That’s right, you can’t kill me!”
The gameplay is pretty good, putting you through harsh environments with some of the most messed up monsters i’ve ever seen in a video game. A lot of the environments are also messed up, like the apartments Simon himself lives at, where it slowly descends into insanity. That’s just one example.
You’ll meet characters that either play a small or big role in the campaign, like Sophie and Dr.Purnell. These characters, although with very little screen time, have a big impact on the story, because these are actual people Simon talked to.
The story is original and very dark, where you play as Book Simon. Book Simon isn’t real, instead, he’s simply a character in a book. Depending on the choices you make throughout the game, you’ll either stay as Book Simon, or you’ll play as the real Simon.
You’ll notice Simon is very quiet in the first few parts of the game. That’s because Cry of Fear was developed over multiple years, and throughout that time, DragonNOR (Simons voice actor) gains more experience as a voice actor, so you can hear him improve throughout the game.
The game is free on steam and can run on nearly any computer built past the BC era.
This is small, but if you’re in a dark place like I am, then I encourage you to play this game when you’re feeling a bit better. This game is very dark and includes scenes of self harm and suicide, so if you don’t want to be reminded of that stuff, maybe you should check back another time.
