The Batman is a great film. The strongest aspect of the film was definitely the performances and the cinematography.
It’s probably the best looking Batman film visually so far. Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz did an amazing job with their characters. Paul Dano had an interesting and satisfying take on the Riddler.
This is a very good film. Is it on the same level as the Dark Knight Trilogy? Perhaps The Dark Knight Rises or Batman Begins but The Dark Knight is still leagues above.
A lot of these reviews on here will make you believe that this is the greatest superhero movie of all time. Putting it simply it is not. Whilst The Batman is a unique and refreshing take on comic book movies, there are still points in the film where it falls back into the same comic book movie tropes as some of its predecessors.
There are points in the film that just make absolutely no sense and for a movie seemingly going for a more grounded take on the caped crusader, there things that happen that are completely unrealistic and sometimes goofy as a result.
The runtime is slightly too long. While entertaining, there were certain points of the movie that dragged on for too long. To the point I found myself daydreaming and thinking about other things.
I think the worst part of the film was the final battle. It was just lacklustre and disappointing. For the entire film to craftily build to this point, only for it to be an average and predictable comic book movie fight scene was very unsatisfactory.
In my opinion, The Batman, despite its flaws, is an excellent starting point. At this point, it shouldn’t even be in the same sentence as The Dark Knight Trilogy. While The Batman is not perfect, it expertly lays the foundation for future instalments to come and makes me excited for what might come next.
Please don’t go into this film thinking it’s the best film of all time or that it blows Christopher Nolan’s films out of the water. You will be as disappointed as I was. Go into this film with an open mind and see it for what it truly is. A great Batman film.
