One of my favorite Movie Series of all time, although there were only 2 movies. While Darren McGavin was great, always entertaining, the TV series paled in comparison to the movies, The Night Stalker (72) and The Night Strangler (73). The TV Series seemed to run out of good story lines and plots pretty early, although some episodes weren't too bad, some were really stretching it with some pretty far out monsters of the week, but the acting was always good. In both the movies and in the series, Newspaper Reporter Carl Kolchak always had a very pretty girl around, either as a partner and ally or a girl friend ( Carol Lynley, Jo Ann Pflug ) and others. I always thought, well, if your going to die at the hands of a terrifying monster, you might as well have a pretty girl around. Sometimes they were monsters. Many many Hollywood character actresses, (Mary Wickes, Kathleen Freeman), and lots of others. Kolchaks overly stressed , overly demanding Boss\Editors, were constantly threatening to fire him, except that he couldn't because he had deadline to meet! The movies were masterpieces of campy TV horror, and 90 minutes was not long enough. You definitely crave more. The background music is absolutely chilling and adds to the fun. Really scary, and perfect for turning out the lights and escaping to monster land. A don't miss for horror fans. Enjoy
