This show is one of the best that I have seen that represents teenage experience. The actors are young and the story feels completely realistic. There is not unnecessary drama in other shows such as Riverdale. The characters have their own story lines that I could image any real teen going through. Although not being autistic, and only knowing autistic people, the characterization of Sara does not seem to be an offensive depiction. The story depicts how children deal with relationships. I especially liked how Simon and Sara’s relationship to their father was shown as a difficult circumstance, yet they still cared. And how easy it was for Simon to fall into bad circumstance with drugs. The way Wilhiem handled his family and his brother’s death was not overly sappy. After Wilhiem got exposed, the way his family reacted was extremely relatable and compelling. Unlike other stories I have seen about coming out, this was not the main point of the story and did not feel drawn out or overly dramatic. The actor who played Wilhiem managed to convey the hurt a person coming out would feel with little words. And most importantly, the relationship between Simon and Wilhiem was paced well, felt realistic and was extremely powerful. Every detail was important to the story, impactful, and was well paced.
