5 stars, BUT……..
Okay so, I hadn’t read the book and was shocked by the storyline of the last episode. Had I any idea of how it was going to end I wouldn’t of started watching this series.
That said, even though there were some rather boring parts that lasted too long, IMO there was so much beauty to appreciate. Many of the scenes, a great deal of them, were simply beautiful. Some reviewers thought there was no chemistry btwn the leads or that many scenes were awkward and forced. But, I didn’t see or feel that at all. Both leads seemed very natural to me and they were excellent in their roles. All the actors were, as is often true of Korean actors, exceptional.
Being an American, and growing up on nothing but American films and TV shows until ten years ago, I had no clue how many American actors are truly bad at their craft. And, it’s shocking how highly they’re regarded and how grossly over-hyped and over-paid they are. Korean actors (along with those from many other countries) have far, far surpassed the talents of American actors.
Anyway, back to The Red Sleeve…this series is just one of those you’ll have to form your own opinion of. I did like it; I just wouldn’t watch it a second time. If YOU decide to watch it, I hope you’ll enjoy it!
