I've read Khaled hosseini's books long before I started this one... So I found it very similar and a combination of 'the kite runner' and 'the thousand splendid suns'. At one point, I thought the story should have ended or taken different turn but the book covered almost all the atrocities of devadasi culture and it didn't end there and went on. Overall it was a good read.
