Honestly I was putting off watching this because of how childish and stupid it looked. But I gave in, and it honestly not bad. It’s a super cute movie, completely different from the past generations but cute nonetheless. I don’t think this is really a good next gen thing tho. This completely threw out all of the tmnt lore. Splinter isn’t in any form connected to hamato yoshi, which would also connect to shredder. But it seems they brought shredder up anyways in hopes for a sequel, looks like shredder is gonna be another no good thug like superfly in this movie. And I’m very displeased on how they portrayed splinter in this movie. Sure he was terrified of the outside world and that’s understandable but he’s just a really bland character. He learned ninjitsu on YouTube videos???? Like what? 😭 sure he had a cool battle scene later in the movie but that’s nothing compared to the other tmnt gens. I think they should have made this like a small show strictly for kids. And then had a bigger tmnt series releasing behind it. Because this is honestly a let down compared to others and it sucks im gonna have to wait another few years to possibly see a good tmnt gen. Now onto the turtles, they were cute overall, Donnie is no longer that smart the other turtles are fine I guess but Donnie’s character was completely stripped from him. Sure he knows a few long words here and there but he isn’t anything like the other gens. Leo having a crush on April didn’t bother me tbh, it was cute watching him fall over himself for her. And I don’t like what they did to the villains either, bebop and rocksteady appeared here and they just turned good so easily???? No character there, just “oh I don’t wanna murder people, we’re good now”. And I don’t care much for the other mutants. Mondo gecko was cool and so was the little frog looking thing. They also added leather head, I don’t mind her being a woman, just again think the characters were overall bland. I think this would have been better as a show tbh because the movie just felt rushed and didn’t give us much on the characters like the previous movies. Hell bayverse is better than this movie, and I know not a lot of people are into that version of tmnt so that’s saying something. And not to mention the cringy references like attack on titan. “His weak spot is his neck just like in aot”. That part made me cringe so hard. But oh well, people love this movie and it’s growing on me too, just wish they had followed the lore a bit more. I am interested on how and if shredder will possibly have any connection to splinter tho. Guess I’ll have to wait and find out.
