First of all, I don’t understand why this movie got such a bad rap… Yes, the frame rate was a bit high and the CGI was very glossed over and did not always at times look completely real. However, I feel like they’ve come along way since movies in the past. Especially, action movies! They took a risk and for that, I applaud their efforts. I really enjoyed this movie and I thought it was thrilling as well as action packed! I thought the fight scenes were very well thought-out, and it did keep me on my toes. Did it deserve a 26% rating on rotten tomatoes, no! This movie was an action movie and thus, it’s going to be inherently a little gimmicky. But that doesn’t mean it totally sucked. You could tell the actors worked very hard as well as the cgi staff to accomplish this feat and they should be applauded for their efforts, not crucified. Critics are critical, but I don’t believe they should be that harsh. This movie wasn’t bad, it wasn’t the best movie ever, but I stayed interested and I didn’t predict the entire movie, which usually happens with action-packed thrillers. So, yes I’m a fan and I am all for movie makers taking risks. It keeps things fresh and interesting.

The movie seemed a bit choppy, and while I understand that it was quite a difficult feat to introduce as much back story to all of the different lives inter-mingling with each other in time; it seemed too crowded. There were oftentimes areas within the movie where the storyboard team could have elaborated a bit more into the characters to help the audience better understand them. More than half of the time I couldn’t even understand what Tom Hanks was saying when he was speaking to Halle Berry in the future timeline of Prescients. While I understand that their language had evolved over a few centuries, it still didn’t make it easy for the audience to understand exactly what they were saying. All in all, I would give it a 4/5, some fun visual effects, but I kind of laughed at the soylent green part where Sonmi was eating her own dead from the Soap box, but then there were really great visceral parts where Halle is staring through the peephole as the assassin is pointing the gun at her. It would have been way better in my opinion if they lent more time and energy into some of the timelines instead of trying too hard to compact as much of the information as they could, which is the main reason it felt so choppy.

Amazing story, beautiful worlds and imagery, great interactive material. 5 stars.
