When I found out that this movie was such a flop, I was genuinely dumbfounded!
The original mummies came out when I was a little kid, and although they are good, they still have that satire element, which, in my opinion, lowers the value of a movie.
It was a huge thing in the 90s, so it was right for that time, and don’t get me wrong I’m still a genuine fan of the original’s.
But we’ve seen that for how many sequels now? I mean truly it was past time for a fresh take on the iconic story, and the Mummy 2017 served that up hot and ready! With that being said, this was its own movie, it was never intended to be a carbon copy remake of the originals, it had New actors, new storyline, new everything. It was meant to be a completely new and different take.
This movie was not only in my opinion captivating, filled with amazing actors, whose storylines left me wanting so much more in a good way! I actually came across the news of the horrible ratings because I was excited for another installment googling if there had been one, to find out this absolutely gut wrenching, and disappointing news. I truly wonder if this movie would’ve came out now in the 2020’s Vrs back in 2017 if it would landed differently, and got the recognition it deserved, since it’s now currently one of the most popular searched movies on Netflix, and the audience has a younger, fresher set of eyes, if it would have landed right where it was supposed to.
Trust me, I get it that people die hard with the originals that they love ( Tom cruise pun intended) but this movie was absolutely breathtaking in every way, it was serious, but it also had comedic relief in a sharp, fun, and fresh way. The depth was there, the CGI was captivating, it was action packed, with a wonderful horror factor, and the storyline was brought to life by heavy hitting A-list actors, who left me excited to see more, and it’s a shame that we won’t be seeing that in the future from this storyline and specific set of characters and actors, in my opinion, this was just the beginning, not the end.
