Good grief! As if it wasn't enough to tackle the challenges facing an aspiring female conductor in a distinctly female-hostile world, we also get (spoiler alert) a lesbian relationship with a member of the orchestra who has a son and leftover 'issues' with their ex; an overbearing father (of the conductor) who's also her Manager, and with 'issues' with her mother (and most of the rest of his family) that he thinks he can dump on his daughter. I could have paid attention to keep up with all the plot lines, but there's a million movies similarly over-freighted. I would have stayed for the music viewed from the 'inside', but we didn't have time for that. I gave up and hummed some Bach.
