This film, like part one, was visually, auditorily, and acting-wise spectacular. And yet, as a lover of the book, I was very disappointed about two major plotline changes, which were (I hope) hotly debated, but ultimately won by Hollywood producers.
The first is Chani’s acceptance to be Paul’s concubine, after he assures her that she is his only love. Hollywood is apparently not comfortable with that concept and has to have her stomp off in a pout. On a worm.
The second is the omission of the birth of Alia and her killing of her uncle. This, too, a little girl (although not a little girl, but generations of old women) killing an old man, was unacceptable to Hollywood.
For shame. Frank Herbert is spinning in his grave. Even David Lynch‘s film, which was destroyed by its producers, had Alia n it.
